Ratko
and Radisa Teofilovic, the twins with voices that appear once in a decade,
if not even more seldom, come from the Balkans. Singing in the Balkans,
including Serbia, the country in which the Teofilovices were born and in
which they first became famous, is easy and difficult at the same time. It
is easy because there has always been a galaxy of beautiful tones and
brilliant songs in the Balkans, and thus, it is enough for someone to put
the fingers into that pot and find whatever one would want. On the other
hand, it is difficult, since, in such abundance, only persons with
exceptional qualities and extraordinary inspiration can really distinguish
themselves. The Teofilovic brothers certainly belong to this category: in
most cases, without any instrumental support, without lace and ornaments,
only with their own voices, they manage to make olden, archaic memories
sparkle again. Singing powerfully and with ease at the same time, Ratko
and Radisa lead us into the whirl of love and melancholy, the two greatest
Balkan sins. Able to move the deepest areas of the listener's soul, to
melt his heart on high fire and creep into all bones and fluids, the
Teofilovices have in any way and for years been refusing to drop down to
banality the mysterious skill of fusing two voices into one. Do not,
therefore, believe that you will do a favor to them if you come to their
concert or if you buy their disc. By doing one of these two things you
will do a favor to yourself.
